Robert Lemoine Shafer, Sr. 94, of Edinburg, PA passed away the morning of Jan. 31, 2025 surrounded by his family.
Born August 14, 1930 in East Palestine, OH, Bob was the oldest son to the late Thomas and Ruth (Hulton) Shafer. He married Thelma (Heath) Davis on August 9, 1958. Thelma and Bob were blessed with 59 years of marriage before her passing on March 10, 2018.
Bob was employed with LTV Steel (formerly Youngstown Sheet & Tube) as a welder for 36 years. He was a member of Edinburg Christian Church. He was a veteran of the Korean War, serving on the USS President Adams. Bob attended East Palestine Jr./Sr. High School. He was a quiet man with a kind and gentle demeanor. Bob enjoyed bowling, golfing, fishing, gardening, reading good westerns, and was known for his sharp eye and strategy when playing card games, especially euchre.
He is survived by his son Robert (Joyce) Shafer, Jr. of Pulaski and stepsons, David (Rose) Davis of Edinburg, Rodney (Julie) Davis, Sr. of Pulaski, and a brother, Larry Shafer of East Liverpool, OH; a sister-in-law, Marilyn Langford (Rick Kuhns) of Boardman, OH, and brother-in-law, Larry (Mary) Heath of The Villages, FL; seven grandchildren, Kimberly, Jamie, Bobbie Jean, Dena, Rodney, Carrie, and Todd; ten great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren. Bob will be especially missed by those who called him Pap and Grampy.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Richard and William, and sisters, Shirley Gates and Louise Crowl.
Visitation will be 2:00-4:00 p.m. Sunday, Feb 2 at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road, New Castle.
Additional visitation will be held from 10:00-11:00 a.m. Monday, Feb 3 at Edinburg Christian Church, Clay Street, Edinburg, PA. A celebration of Bob's life will take place immediately following visitation at 11:00 a.m.
Burial will be in Oak Park Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Edinburg Christian Church.
