Robert L. Smith, 78, of New Castle, passed away the morning of September 19, 2014, in UPMC Presbyterian Hospital. Robert was born on September 22, 1935, in New Castle, to the late Oscar L. and Nellie Reynolds Smith. He married the former Marilynn J. Veon on March 30, 1961. She preceded him in passing on August 19, 2006. Mr. Smith worked for IA Construction, Adobe Mining, JR Moore Farm Supply and RoMed. Robert was a member of the US Army. He was a member of the Neshannock Vol. Fire Dept. and the Wabash Bears bowling league and loved tinkering with anything mechanical.Robert is survived by his two sons and daughters-in-law, Todd R. and Lorey Smith and Ronald Dale and Laci Temple Smith all of New Castle; one sister, Mary Cover, of New Castle and six grandchildren, Anthony, Nicole, Adam, Todd, Jr., Jeremy and Kaylee Smith. In addition to his wife, Mr. Smith was preceded by his parents. Visitation will be held Monday, September 22, 2014, from 4-7 p.m. at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., New Castle. Funeral services will be held immediately following visitation at 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in Oak Park Cemetery.
