Robert C. Spiker, 92, passed away at Juanita Potts Family Home, Coshocton, Ohio, December 4, 2015. Born August 4, 1923, in New Castle, he was the son of Harvey A. and Mary P. McConnell Spiker. He was preceded in death April 12, 2004 by his wife, Eleanor Elizabeth Smith Spiker, whom he married March 21, 1946.
Robert graduated from Wilmington Area High School.
He retired after 34 years from Republic Steel LTV, Youngstown, where he worked as a millwright in the open hearth mill. Because he found enjoyment in helping friends repair things and work on small projects, he gained employment after retirement as a handyman with McBurney Realty.
Robert was an avid fan of both the Pittsburgh Pirates and the Steelers. He was a member and trustee of Highland Heights United Brethren and also a member and Elder of Wayside Emmanuel . He taught Sunday school for both churches.
Mr. Spiker is survived by two daughters, Patricia (Anthony M.) Discerni of Coshocton, Ohio, and Peggy (James C.) McElree of Annapolis, MD.; one brother, Donald Spiker of Ellwood City, PA.; four sisters, Freda Hudspath of Ellwood City,PA., Virginia Gee o f Zelienople, PA., Anna Mary Hawk of Virginia; and Genevieve Lydic of Indiana, PA.; 8 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Wesley, Albert, and Harvey Spiker; and one sister, Jenny Beight.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 6-8 p.m. and Wednesday from 10-11 a.m. at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc. 2429 Wilmington Road.
A funeral service will take place immediately following visitation Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Randy Crum officiating.
Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery.
