Robert E. Walters, 68, of Countyline Street, passed away the morning of November 4, 2015 at his residence.
Born February 11, 1947 in New Castle, he was a son of Thomas and Margaret Alexander Walters.
Surviving at home is his wife of 31 years, Barbara Link Walters, whom he married November 18, 1983.
A 1965 New Castle High School graduate, he went on to attend New Castle Business College for two years before enlisting in the U.S. Marine Corps. He served during the Vietnam War with the rank of Sergeant E-5.
Bob was employed as a counselor for 25 years with the Youth Development Center until his retirement in 2002.
He was past Commander of the Veterans Council as well as Jr. Vice-Commander of both the VFW and the American Legion. Bob helped coordinate the Veterans Day parades and the Veterans Memorial Day ceremony at the court house.
He enjoyed bowling and helping with the Boy Scouts of America, and was a member of St. Joseph the Worker Church.
In addition to his wife Barbara, he is survived by two daughters, Christine Walters of New Castle, and Master Sgt. Kimberly and Douglas Witham of Mascoutah, ILL; three sons, Shane Walters, David Walters, and Kevin Link all of New Castle; one sister, Barbara Walters of Biloxi, MISS; and four grandchildren, Katarina and Genevieve Witham and David and Michael Walters.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one brother, John Walters.
Visitation will be held on Monday from 4:00-8:00 p.m. at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road.
A Blessing Service will take place on Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home, with the Rev. Fr. Richard Salley officiating.
Full military rites will be performed by the New Castle Area Honor Guard.
Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery.
