Robert R. Ward, age 82, of Shenango Road, passed away the morning of September 19, 2015 at Jameson Hospital.
Born June 16, 1933 in New Castle, he was a son of Harold and Mable Knight Ward.
Surviving at home is his wife of 60 years, Mary E. Singletary Ward, whom he married June 10, 1955.
After attending Walmo School, he served his country in the U.S. Air Force as an Airman 2nd Class.
Robert was a kiln operator for Shenango China until his retirement in 1979.
He was a member of Challenges where he often played pool. Among his many interests, he enjoyed hunting, gardening and bird watching. He also liked baking and cooking.
A member of Neshannock Community Church, he served as a usher and was on the church board.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by three daughters and their husbands, Judi and David Axe of New Castle, Carol and Gregory Ferrucci of Edinburg, and Carmen and Walter Mielke of Kennerdell, Pa; one brother, Richard Ward of New Castle; three grandchildren, Sam (Megan) Mielke, Lucas Ferrucci (fiance' Laura Conti), and Andrew Ferrucci; and two great-grandchildren, Tonilynn and Dylan.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Shirley Pitzer and June Ann Altman.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 4:00-7:00 p.m. at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday at 11:00 at the funeral home with Pastor Derrick Montgomery officiating.
Full military rites will be given by the New Castle Area Honor Guard.
Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery.
