Rocco J. "Crooky" Commesso, age 89, of Edinburg passed away, peacefully, December 6, 2016 at UPMC Jameson Hospital. Born in Hillsville on March 7, 1927, he was a son of Louis and Rose Macri Commisso. On August 19, 1948 he married Mary Lou Mayberry. They have had the joy of spending 68 years together. In 1945, Rocco served in the US Army during WWII. After his service he was a machine operator at New Castle Battery. He played baseball and football for Bessemer High School and was also a player/manager for Edinburg in the North County Baseball league. He enjoyed watching the Pittsburgh Pirates and Pittsburgh Steelers. He never missed any sport that his grandchildren were involved in at Mohawk, Geneva and Westminster. Above all else, he loved his family and his grandchildren were the light of his life. He is known for his wonderful Christmas light display at his home in Edinburg. Rocco attended New Life Baptist Church. Besides his wife, survivors include one daughter, Kathy (Frank) Lorello of Edinburg; two sons, Lew (Rene) Commesso of New Castle and Gary Commesso of Edinburg; one brother, Joseph Commisso of Kingman, Arizona; one sister, Judy (Nick) Rapone of New Castle; eight grandchildren; and nine great grandchildren. Preceding him in death are his parents; one sister, Theresa Cossentino; and one niece/goddaughter, Donna Cossentino. Visitation will be held Sunday from 4-5 at Wayside Emmanuel Church, 4437 Mitchell Rd, New Castle. A memorial service will be held at 5:00 pm Sunday at the church with Pastor Randy Crum officiating.
