Obituary

Rosalyn (Rose) S. Lawton, 88, of Washington, PA, died on September 3, 2026, in Washington, PA.

She was born on May 26, 1938, in Washington, PA, a daughter of the late William B. and Alice Mowl Scott.

Mrs. Lawton graduated from Trinity High School, Washington, PA, in 1956, From Washington Hospital School of Nursing in 1959, and from Slippery Rock University in 1979.

On September 12, 1959, she married Robert J Lawton.

Mrs. Lawton had been employed by The Overlook Medical Clinic, New Wilmington, PA; Lawrence County Visiting Nurses Association, and Liberty Mutual Insurance Co., both in New Castle, PA.

She was a member of Faith UP Church and was serving as an Elder, sang in the choir, was an active participant in the Bible Study and all-around active congregant. Previously Mrs. Lawton was a member of Northminster Presbyterian Church where she served as a Deacon and Elder. She sang in the choir there as well as with the New Castle Music Club Chorus in “The Messiah” for a number of years.

Rose was an accomplished quilter, making many wedding quilts for her family, and made quilts for babies baptized at Northminster for many years. She was a member of Where the Corners Meet Quilting Guild.

She enjoyed playing cards, belonging to both Bridge and 500 Clubs; golf, bowling, gardening and was an AVID reader.

She is survived by her son, Scott R. (Christina) Lawton, of Dortmund, Germany; a daughter, Anne Elizabeth (Will) Stone, of Montreat, NC; four grandchildren: Lois Elizabeth Stone, PhD (Ben Leverett-Jaques) of Manchester, England; Lt. Robert H. Stone (USCG) (Elizabeth Baker, MD) of New Orleans, LA, and Phoenix, AZ; and Henry and Carl Lawton of Dortmund; one brother, Bernard L Scott, of Cocoa, FL, and her twin sister, Ruth S. (Louis) Vore, of Washington, PA. Deceased, in addition to her husband and parents, is one sister, Marilyn Riser.

A service celebrating Rose Lawton’s life will be held at 11:00 am at Faith UP Church, 900 East Beau Street, Washington, PA, 15301. A reception with the family will be prior to the service and begin at 10:00 am.
