Obituary

Rose M. Michaels, 82, of Hickory Township, passed away the morning of April 8, 2019 at her residence. Born November 4, 1936 in Bradley, Ohio, she was the daughter of Andrew A. and Mary (Klecka) Pavelek. Rose was in the last graduating class of Stoneboro High School in 1954. She worked at Beal Brothers Electric Company in Hadley until her marriage to Lloyd C. Michaels on February 4, 1956. Later in life she was employed with the Laurel School Districts cafeteria for 20 years. Rose had many passions included butterflies which were found on her checks and often on stickers that adorned her greeting card envelopes. Rose also loved children. She was a 4-H leader, a Sunday school teacher and also a volunteer at the Lawrence County Fair for 37 years. She encouraged and helped her grandchildren to make crafts, enter flowers and make baked goods for the fair. One year, she and two of her grandchildren, took Best of Show at the fair. She also enjoyed sewing, cross-stitch, cake decorating and making clothing and toys for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Rose like to travel and visited nearly every state, Canada and the Bahamas. She was a decades long affiliate of the Senior Extension Club with the Center Presbyterian Homemakers Group. Rose attended many baseball, hockey, softball games and swim meets as well as school programs of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a dedicated gardener and canned from her beautiful garden yearly. An aficionado of any type of flower, her home both inside and out, bloomed with magnificent color. Rose leaves behind to cherish her memory, her devoted husband of 63 years, Lloyd C. Jiggs Michaels; her cherished children, Darryl Michaels and wife Jeanenne of Scott Township, Suzanne Sankey and husband Edward of Ellwood City, and Jason Michaels and wife Christin of Mercer; sister June Pavelek of New Castle; brothers Andrew Pavelek and wife Peggy of New Castle and Michael Pavelek of Fredonia; 10 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren; and numerous loving nieces and nephews who graced her life. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Patricia Michaels-List in 1990. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 10, from 2:00-4:00 and 6:00-8:00pm at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road, New Castle. A funeral service will take place on Thursday at 11:00am at the funeral home with the Rev. Chris Curtis officiating. A private burial will be in Mt. Hermon Cemetery where she will be laid to rest beside her beloved daughter.
