Rose Shaffer, age 97, of New Castle, passed away the evening of May 10, 2023, at The Haven Convalescent Home.

Born March 11, 1926, she was the daughter of the late George A. and Victoria (Ludu) Siovaila.

On June 28, 1969, she married her beloved husband of 53 years, Kenneth L. Shaffer. He survives at home.

Rose was a graduate of Lincoln High School. She then went on to further her education, graduating from Geneva College and the University of Pittsburgh and UCLA, where she obtained her masters' degree. Rose was a teacher, employed by Ellwood City School District, until her retirement. She was an excellent cook and loved trying new recipes. Rose was a voracious reader and loved cross stitch and crossword puzzles. She was a member of P.A.S.R., Oak Grove Presbyterian Church, and Rainbow Circle.

In addition to her husband, Rose is survived by two nieces, Tami (Richard) Stevens and Jan (Mark) McClymonds; one nephew, Ron (Shirley) Siovaila; one sister-in-law, Gertrude Siovaila; numerous great nieces and nephews and two great-great nephews.

Along with her parents, Rose was preceded in death by two brothers, Emil and Paul Siovaila, two nephews, Tim Siovaila and Tom Shaffer.

Visitation will be held on Mon. May 15th from 2:00 PM – 4:00 PM at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road, New Castle.

A service will be held immediately following visitation at 4:00 PM with Pastor Judy Wilson officiating.

Burial will be at Mt. Hermon Cemetery.
