Rose M. Smulick, 91, of 102 Shenango Road, New Castle, passed away the afternoon of January 10, 2012 at Jameson Care Center.Born September 24, 1920 in Brent, PA, she was a daughter of Joseph and Maria Cavalini Lucas. She married Paul Smulick on June 26, 1944. He preceded her in death on October 22, 1977.She was a graduate of Plain Grove High School and was employed with the American Pants Factory as a seamstress.Rose was a member of St. Joseph the Worker Church where she volunteered in several activities and with the church bazaars. She was a member of the Christian Mothers and Martha Guild at the church.Rose dedicated her life to helping others and being a loving mother. From weeks, days, and nights tending to the needs of her mother's, sisters' and nieces' terminal illnesses before the days of hospice, to the countless hours spent working as a volunteer for her church; others always came before herself. She enjoyed her flower and vegetable garden that she also shared with all. She committed her life not for today's trivial possessions, but those in the life to come. Before she did anything, the question was not what I can get out of this, but what would Jesus do?She is survived by one daughter, Paulette Smulick of Austintown, OH; one son and daughter-in-law, Bill and Kathy Smulick of New Castle; one sister, Josephine Barella of West Palm Beach, FL; two granddaughters, Laurie Smulick of Austintown and Marcy Godleski of New Castle; and three great-grandchildren.Visitation will be held Friday, January 13, 2012, from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road.A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, January 14, 2012, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Joseph the Worker Church. The Rev. Father Victor Molka will officiate. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery.
