Roy M. Sheehy, age 87, of Edinburg passed away the night of January 6, 2017 at UPMC Presbyterian Hospital, Pittsburgh.
Born in New Castle on December 22, 1929, he was a son of Robert and Lanora Marshall Sheehy.
On October 4, 1952 he married the former Phyllis A. VanNatten. She preceded him in death on December 3, 2011.
He attended New Castle High School and then served his country in the US Navy as a Fireman 1st Class during the Korean Conflict.
In 1991 he retired from First Energy-Penn Power in Niles, Ohio, where he was employed as a stationary steam engineer for 48 years.
He enjoyed fishing, hunting and taking care of his home and property. He was a member of the Masons, Lodge of the Craft; Westminster #433; as well as New Castle Bible Church where he sang in the choir.
Survivors include one son, Paul B. Sheehy of Edinburg; one daughter, Susan R. Hardy of Cheswick, PA; five grandchildren, Amy Greer, Peter Hardy, Kendra Sheehy, Breanna Sheehy, and Gretchen Hardy; and ten great grandchildren, Arissa Greer, Ayden Sheehy, Joshua Hardy, Ezikiel Hardy, Arron Hardy, Troy Walko, Shawn Greer, Eli Hardy, Calandra Sheehy and Jason Greer.
Besides his parents and his wife, Roy is preceded in death by one brother, Robert Y. Sheehy; and four sisters, Donna F. Rowles, Minta Ludke , Hazel Burton and Sara Yoho and one great- grandson Bryson Sheehy.
Visitation will be Tuesday from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm and Wednesday from 10:00 am until 11:00 am at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road, New Castle. A Masonic service will be held Tuesday at 8:00 pm.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday at 11:00 am at the funeral home with Rev. Max Bungard officiating.
Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery.
