Obituary

Ruby F. Ballengee Gray, 101, of New Castle, passed away the morning of June 14, 2016 at Jameson Care Center. Born on January 15, 1915 in Talcott, West Virginia, she was a daughter of William O. and Pauline Saunders Bostic. She was preceded in death on December 21, 1981 by her first husband, Jack M. Ballengee, whom she married on July 14, 1939. She then married William D. Gray in 1997, who passed away in 2011. Ruby was a 1933 graduate of Talcott High School in Talcott, West Virginia. As a resident of New Castle, she was employed as a clerk at both Croton Bakery and Jameson Candy. She also served alongside her husband as a pastor's wife for twenty-five years. Her greatest pleasure in life was her family, her grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. She enjoyed gardening, traveling and playing cards. She was a member of the Garden Club, the Laurel PTA, and a Lioness. She was a member of Clen-Moore Presbyterian Church where she was involved in PrimeTimers As a former member of Eastbrook Methodist church, she taught Sunday School, sang in the church choir and served on the church council. Surviving her are two sons, Jack M. Ballengee of New Castle, and Rod (Lori) Ballengee of Wellsville, New York; two step sons, Robert (Karen) Gray of Florida, and Kenneth (Chris) Gray of Tennessee; two step daughters, Susanne Mesol of Maryland, and Janet (Rob) Bruening of North Carolina; one brother, Thomas Bostic of Pikeville, KY; one sister, Mary Carol Ward of Marie, WV; five grandchildren; five step grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; and eight great-great grandchildren. Along with her parents and two husbands, she is preceded in death by one sister; seven brothers; and one daughter-in-law, Jean Ballengee. Visitation will be from 9-11 am Thursday at R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road, New Castle. A memorial service will be held immediately following visitation at 11 am Thursday at the funeral home with Rev. Mark Kauffman officiating. Burial will be in Oak Park Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Clen-Moore Presbyterian Church, 220 Clen-Moore Blvd., New Castle, PA 16105 or to the charity of the donor's choice.
