Ruth P. Chabak, age 97, of New Castle, PA, passed away the evening of Aug. 14, 2024, at Avalon Springs – Mercer.

Born July 9, 1927, in New Castle, PA, she was the daughter of the late Richard and Gertrude (Bame) Bailey.

On May 28, 1949, she married her husband, Joseph Chabak, who preceded her in death in 2001.

For 15 years, Ruth was employed by the Neshannock School District where she worked as a cafeteria worker. She also worked as a self-employed seamstress. Quilting, crocheting, and crafting were some of Ruth's favorite hobbies. She treasured the times she spent with her family and friends. She was a faithful member of First Assembly of God.

Survivors include two daughters, Karen (George) Freed of St. George, UT, and Colleen (Bob) Aeppli of Volant, PA; two sons, Mark (Sue) Chabak of Minneapolis, MN, and Matthew (Kristin) Chabak of Wooster, OH; 7 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husband Ruth was preceded in death by her brother, James Bailey and her twin brother, Richard Bailey.

Visitation will be held on Wed. Aug. 21st from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road, New Castle.

A funeral service will take place, at the funeral home immediately following visitation, at 3:00 PM with Pastor Stephen DeSantis of First Assembly of God, officiating.

Burial will be alongside her husband at Castleview Cemetery.
