Obituary

Ruth Edythe Kramer Frew, age 88, formerly of Scott Township, passed away the night of December 13, 2016 at Shenango Presbyterian SeniorCare in New Wilmington. Born July 6, 1928 in New Castle, she was the daughter of Edward Homer Kramer and Elizabeth Nelson Kramer. Ruth was preceded in death on August 13, 2009 by the love of her life, Rex M. Frew, whom she married May 30, 1950. She attended New Castle High School, where she graduated as Salutarian of her class in 1947. She was employed by Bell Telephone Company in the marketing department until the birth of her first child. She later returned to Bell Telephone where she worked until retirement. Ruth was active with the Adult Literacy Program, a 4H leader and a member of the Red Hat Society. She enjoyed reading, and tending to her rose and vegetable garden. She and her husband Rex were a real dance team with several Square Dance clubs and with Paws and Taws. Ruth didn't sit still very long. She was wonderful at needlepoint, knitting and crocheting, making beautiful Afghans and baby clothes. She and her husband took journeys together across America, the Caribbean and Europe, as well as wintering at their home in Bonita Springs for several years. Prior to her membership at New Covenant Evangelical Presbyterian Church, Ruth was an active member of Second U.P.Church where she served as a Deaconess and Sunday school teacher. She is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Lori and Kim Morris of New Brighton; one son and daughter-in-law, John and Sandy Frew of New Castle; one brother and sister-in-law, David and Delores Kramer of North Palm Bay, FL; and two grandchildren, Jesse Frew and Katelyn Frew. In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by her son-in-law, Joseph Scarfone. Visitation will be held on Friday from 4:00-8:00 p.m. at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road and on Saturday from 10:00-11:00 a.m. at New Covenant EPC. A Memorial Service will take place at 11:00 a.m. at New Covenant Evangelical Presbyterian Church, 1911 Harlansburg Road, New Castle, PA 16101 with the Rev. Chris Curtis officiating.
