Ruth E. Gavroy, age 92 of New Castle, passed away the evening of Sept. 18, 2020, at the Haven Convalescent Home. Born February 29, 1928, in Pittsburgh, Pa., she was the daughter of the late John and Jessie Settlemyer. On October 2, 1948, she married her beloved husband of 71 years, Leo Allen Gavroy, who preceded her in death July 18, 2020. Ruth was a homemaker. She enjoyed playing cards, with her many friends, at Ryders and Perkins Restaurants. Ruth's greatest joy in life, was spending time with her family. She was a life member of St. John's Lutheran Church. Ruth is survived by her two sons, Steve (Loreli) Gavroy of New Castle, John (Donna) Gavroy of Willowick, OH; two daughters, Audrey (Gary) Palmer and Kim (Jeffrey) Sutton, both of New Castle; three grandchildren and four great grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband, Ruth was preceded in death by one brother, Herbert Settlemyer and a sister, Ethel. Visitation will be held on Tues. Sept. 22nd from 12:00 – 2:00 PM at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road, New Castle. Visitors are asked to adhere to the CDC guidelines regarding wearing face masks and practicing social distancing. A private service, for the family, will be held immediately following visitation, with Chuck Gavroy, officiating.
