Ruth I. Hughes, 88, formerly New Castle and Poland, Ohio, passed away the morning of April 23, 2014 in Assumption Village Nursing Facility, North Lima, Ohio.Born January 19, 1926 in New Castle, she was a daughter of Reuben and Florence Steele Salmon.She was preceded in death on September 9, 2007 by her husband of 59 years, David K. Hughes, whom she married August 17, 1948.A graduate of New Castle High School, Ruth was a homemaker, taking care of her husband and their two children.She enjoyed volunteering for the American Red Cross, and liked collecting ceramic frogs.She was a member of St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church.Surviving are her two children, daughter Gail C. (William) Sanders of New Castle, and son David G. (Martha) Hughes of Boardman; one sister, Cynthia Hayes of Ocean View, DE; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.In addition to her husband and parents, she is preceded in death by two brothers, Ralph and Pete Salmon.Visitation will be one hour prior to the service, from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 26, 2014, at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road, New Castle.A service will take place Saturday, Aprl 26, 2014, at 2:00 p.m at the funeral home and will be officiated by Rev.
