Ruth Johnson, age 98 of New Castle, passed away the evening Dec. 25, 2020 at Quality Life Services, New Castle. Born June 7, 1922, in Slippery Rock, PA, she was the daughter of the late Hugh and Sara (Morrow) Fergus. On June 28, 1944, she married her husband of 54 years, Charles M. Johnson. He preceded her in death on September 10, 1999. Mrs. Johnson was a teacher at the Reynoldsville, Berlin, and Brockway area school districts. She also taught for AARP, as a senior driving teacher. She retired after 34 years of teaching. Ruth was very active in her community and was a member of various organizations including Delta-Kappa-Gamma, Jameson Aides, Wimodausis, PASR and United Presbyterian Woman. She was a member of Northminster Presbyterian Church. Mrs. Johnson is survived by two sons, Neil Johnson of Brockway, PA, David Johnson of Indianapolis, IN; one sister, Irene Fergus of New Castle, PA and one sister-in-law, Lucille Fergus of Slippery Rock, PA; and one granddaughter, Kristina Klavins. In addition to her parents and husband, Ruth is preceded in death by one brother, James Fergus, three sisters, Helen Barnes, Mary Judge, and Jean Holben. Private family services were held at the R.
