Ruth Evelyn Morrison, 93, of 2485 Perry Highway, Portersville, passed away the morning of March 9, 2010 in Forbes Hospice in Pittsburgh, PA.Born March 6, 1917 in Slippery Rock Township, PA, she was a daughter of William J. and Edna Dean McCracken. She married Joseph D. Morrison on Mary 26, 1938. He preceded her in death on May 5, 1974.She attended Grant City School. She was employed as a nurses aid at the Lawrence County Home for twenty years. She worked at St. Joseph's Nursing Home in New Castle for fifteen years. Mrs. Morrison then became a private caregiver.She attended Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Slippery Rock Township. She enjoyed canning, sewing, gardening and working around her home, but she especially enjoyed the time she shared with her family.Survivors include one daughter, Betty Joanne Brown of Sanibel Island, FL; one son, John E. Morrison of New Castle; one sister, Doris Daufen of Fombelle; one sister-in-law, Ruth McCracken of Portersville, five grandchildren; James and Lori Brown, Lori and Jeff McGuire, Kim and Randy Reigh, Jeff and Marcie Morrison and Beth Morrison; and twelve great-grandchildren.She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; a son, William H. Morrison; one great-grandson, Joseph Brown; two sisters, Velma Evans and Lucille Bluedorn; two brothers, Willard and Donald McCracken.Visitation will be Friday, March 12, 2010, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road, New Castle.A funeral service will be held Saturday, March 1, 2010, at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Pastor Carmen Venezie will officiate. Burial will be in Mt. Hermon Cemetery.In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Forbes Hospice, 115 S. Neville Street, Pittsburgh, PA 15213.
