Roger Oliver, lovingly known as Snap to his family and friends, was born on August 3, 1924 to S. Roger Oliver Sr. and Amelia Dunn Oliver of Burlington, New Jersey. He was the third of four children. His siblings include David Oliver, Jane Oliver (Newberry) and Richard (Dick) Oliver.
He died peacefully on June 5, 2017 at The Concordia Havens in Cabot, Pennsylvania.
The Olivers were life-long residents of Burlington. Snap attended the Burlington Township schools. He happily participated in the full spectrum of athletics.
He graduated from the Peddie School in Hightstown, New Jersey in 1942. He joined the Army Air Corps in in March 12, 1943. He served in the CBI (China-Burma-India) as a flight mechanic. He earned the rank of Staff Sergeant.
He enrolled at the Drexel Institute of Technology as a business student. Snap enjoyed participating in campus life as a cheerleader for Drexel. He became a member the Tau Kappa Epsilon (TEK) and developed many lifelong friends. He graduated in 1950.
He married Mary Hastings Moyer on February 19, 1955. They raised three daughters: Linda (Grape), Peggy (Kinkade) and Mary Sue (Wolf) in Mt. Laurel, NJ. Snap worked as an insurance adjuster for Reliance Insurance Company until his retirement in 1988.
To keep busy, he joined the Law Firm of Cozen and OConnor. Mary passed away in July 1990 and work filled his days.
Later, he re-discovered an old friend from collegeCarol Swanson. He married Carol on New Years Day, January 1, 1993. With Drexel roots and a love for travel, they built a new life together in western Pennsylvania.
He is survived by his wife of 24 years, Carol Swanson Oliver, his three daughters and his five step-children. Together, Snap and Carol have 22 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren.
