Obituary

Sally Ann Buchanan, 81, of New Castle, passed away the afternoon of March 4, 2023, at UPMC Presbyterian Hospital after a battle with cancer.

Born February 11, 1942, in New Castle, she was the daughter of Charles Campbell Duncan and Eleanor Alice (Critchlow) Duncan.

She is survived by her husband of 51 years, Thomas M. Buchanan, Sr., whom she married January 15, 1972.

A 1960 graduate of Shenango High School, Sally went on to attend Toccoa Falls Bible College to study music. She furthered her education at Choffin School of Nursing where she received her LPN certification.

She was employed as an LPN with UPMC Horizon-Shenango Valley as well as other doctor's offices and nursing facilities throughout her career. She was also involved in the Rescue Mission Ministry, alongside her husband, in Kansas City and Charleston, West Virginia.

Sally was an expert seamstress and crafter. She also enjoyed playing the piano at First Alliance Church where she was a member and served in many other capacities.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by a son, Mark Buchanan of Zelienople; one brother, Harold (Roberta) Duncan of Akron, Ohio; two brothers-in-law, Robert (Margaret) Miller and John Buchanan, all of New Castle. She will be sadly missed by her beloved family, including her adoring nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and countless friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her father-in-law and mother-in-law, June and John Buchanan, Sr.; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Bill and Doris Buchanan; and a sister-in-law Kathleen Buchanan.

Visitation will be held on Friday, March 10, from 10:00-1:00 at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road, New Castle.

A funeral service will take place immediately following the visitation at 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. John McCready officiating.

Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions be made to support the continuing care of her husband by sending donations to Mark Buchanan, 22237 Perry Highway, Zelienople, PA 16063.
