Obituary

Samuel J. Fry, 92, of Edinburg road, New Castle passed away on Saturday July 21, 2012 at his residence.Born August, 26, 1919 in New Castle, Sam was the son of the late Harry L. and Luella May Claypoole Fry. He married Kathryn Arlene Barber on June, 30, 1937, she preceeded him in death on Oct. 27, 1984. He married his second wife Patricia Trushel on Dec. 19, 1985, she also preceeded him in death on July 15, 2000.Sam was a retired engineer with the Chessie System, formerly the B&O railroad. He served in the Army as a Corporal during WW II, and was a avid outdoorsman who also enjoyed woodworking and carpentry work. His later years he spent bird watching and spending time with his family and faithful companion Tiny, his dog.Sam was a member of Moravia Presbyterian Church.Sam is survived by two daughters, Jean Seth and Carol Quear; and one son Jay Fry all of New Castle; one brother, George Fry of Indianapolis Indiana; two sisters, Ruth Simmers of N. Las Vegas, Nevada and Edith Vessela of Utah; eight grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and five great great grandchildren along with numerous nieces and nephews.In addition to his parents, and two wives, Sam was preceded in death by a daughter, Jo Anne Fry; four brothers, Lou, Vern, William and Albert Fry; and two sisters, Mildred Bordonaro and Noreen Gettings.Visitation will be on Tuesday, July 24, 2012, from 10:00 a.m. till 12:00 noon at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Rd., New Castle.A funeral service will be held at 12:00 noon at the funeral home with Chaplin Patricia Sawaya of Jameson Hospice officiating. The New Castle Area Honor Guard will perform full military rites. Entombment will be in Castleview Mausoleum.Memorial contributions may be made to the Jameson Hospice of Lawrence County, 1211 Wilmington Ave., New Castle Pa. 16105 or the City Rescue Mission, 319 S. Croton Ave., New Castle Pa. 16101.
