Samuel J. Wellman, 71, of New Castle passed away the morning of February 6, 2014 at Silver Oaks Health and Rehabilitation Center. Born April 28, 1942, he was the son of Sam and Lorraine Settle Wellman. Sam attended Laurel High School and served in the U.S. Army as a sergeant. He was an electrician at Penn Power for 36 years, retiring in 1998. Sam was a 32nd Degree Mason, a member of the Mahoning New Castle Lodge, the Eagles Club. Among his many interests were golfing, hunting and fishing. Survivors included two sons, Samuel J. Wellman II and Clint J. Wellman; a brother, Thomas Wellman; a sister, Deborah Boron, all of New Castle; and two grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, William and Wayne Wellman. Visitation will be Sunday from 4-6 p.m at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc. 2429 Wilmington Road. A funeral service will be held Mondy at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. The Rev. Matthew Bupp will officiate. Burial will be at Castle View Gardens.
