Samuel Ivan Young, Jr., 89, of New Castle went to be with his Lord and Savior on the afternoon of August 19, 2016 surrounded by his loving family and a special nurse, Candi. Samuel was born on April 8, 1927 in Neshannock Falls to the late Samuel I. Young, Sr. and Rose I. Flickinger Young. He married the former Dorothy J. Korth on July 3, 1953. She survives. Samuel was a 1945 graduate of New Wilmington High School and served his country in the US Navy as a World War II Seaman First Class. He worked for Johnson Bronze Company, Universal Rundle and Castle Hills Golf Course. He had a love for deer hunting and gardening and for basketball, winning the Class B Section for New Wilmington in 1945, and for baseball, winning the North County Baseball League Championship for Volant in 1947. He was a dedicated member of New Hope Family Worship Center. In addition to his wife, Dorothy, Samuel is survived by his son, Dale and his wife, Victoria of New Castle; a brother, William Young of New Wilmington; and many cousins, nieces, nephews and loving and faithful friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Edwin Young; a sister, Phyllis Amos; and a half brother, Rev. Curtis Powell. The family wishes to thank all the caregivers who blessed Sam's life over the past few years providing excellent care, companionship and friendship. Family and friends will receive visitors from 6 to 7 PM Friday at New Hope Family Worship Center with a celebration of life beginning at 7:00 with the Rev. Bill Whisel officiating. There will be an additional hour of visitation at the church on Saturday from 10-11 AM prior to a processional to Castle View Memorial Gardens where a memorial service and graveside committal will be held.
