Sander H. Rubenson, 88, New Castle native and long time, respected businessman, passed away at his home on Thursday, April 1, 2010. Mr. Rubenson was the founder and president of the Reuben-Lloyd Company, a wholesale distributor, which he opened with his father in 1954 and sold in 1996.He was born February 26, 1922 on the South Side of New Castle to the former Rae Caplan and Reuben Rubenson.He married the former Shirley Malkin of Youngstown, OH, in 1946 and they were married until she preceded him in death in February, 1995. Mr. Rubenson served in the Army medic corps during World War II in Germany and France and participated in the third wave landing on Normandy following D-Day.He was a long time member and board member of Temple Israel and was instrumental in its merger and creation of Temple Hadar Israel. He served on the synagogue's board of directors until his passing. He was a long time member of New Castle Country Club and served on its board of directors for many years.Survivors include two daughters, Lynn Rubenson of San Diego and Janis Rubenson Skinner of Denver; grandchildren Stacy Skinner and David Rubenson-Benjamin; beloved nieces, nephews, grand nieces and nephews and one grand-grand niece.In addition to his parents and wife he was preceded in death by his son-in-law Robert Skinner.Visitation will be held Monday, April 5, 2010, from 12:00 to 1:00 PM at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road, New Castle, PA.A funeral service will be conducted Monday, April 5, 2010, at 1:00 PM at the funeral home. Rabbi Martin Shorr will officiate. Burial will be in Temple Israel Cemetery.The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Temple Hadar Israel, 403 E.
