Sara Grace Brest, 95, of Neshannock Township passed away the evening of Thursday July 13, 2023 at Good Samaritan Hospice in Beaver, PA. She was born on March 4, 1928 in New Castle to Harold R. and Florence M. Gibb Klingensmith. On December 9, 1950, she married James H. Brest. He preceded her in death on October 19, 1999.

She graduated from Shenango High School in 1944. She worked for many years at Bell Telephone and retired from Liberty Mutual in 1991.

After her retirement, Sara enjoyed vounteering with the Jameson Junior Guild for many years, helping to create many quilts that were raffled off during her tenure. She also volunteered at Jameson Place and was very active in her church, Highland Presbyterian for over 60 years, not only volunteering in the church office as a secretary, but also as a choir member for many years.

"Rose Nylund" as she was affectionately nicknamed, loved to tell stories of her days on her family's farm, always had her hair the most beautiful shade of blonde, and always took just an extra few seconds to get our jokes! She enjoyed being active, walking every morning until she was well into her 80's. She was one of the biggest Pittsburgh Pirates' fans, standing by them season after season. She spent her days reading the Bible, fervently praying for her family and friends, and anyone who asked. The most important thing to her was her family and she looked forward to and loved spending time with them.

She is survived by her four daughters, Sandy (Bo) DeCarbo, with who she resided, Roberta (Jim) Marburger of Cochranton, Cindy Harper (Dr. Rick Robinson) of Ft. Worth, Texas, and Pam Sculthorp of Flagstaff, Arizona. Her grandchildren, Eric Robinson, Kevin Robinson, Julie Dougherty, Natalie DeCarbo (Mike Malley), Dr. Jacob (Sara) Dougherty, A.J. (Heather) DeCarbo, Robyn (Steffen) Olson, and great-grandchildren, Colin Dougherty, Marin Dolquist, Archer & Edison Olson, Scarlett & Josephine DeCarbo, and Lucille Dougherty. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Bonnie Klingensmith, many nieces, nephews and friends.

In addition to her husband, Sara was preceded in death by her brothers, Glenn Klingensmith, Joe Klingensmith, and William Klingensmith, her grandson, Benjamin Thomas DeCarbo, and great-grandson, Westley Paul Dougherty.

Visitation will be on Wednesday July 19, 2023, from 3pm-5pm, at R. Cunningham Funeral Home at 2429 Wilmington Rd, New Castle. A service will be held directly following visitation, at 5pm, at the funeral home, by Pastor Richard Kinney of Highland Presbyterian Church. Burial will take place at Oak Park Cemetery.
