Sara E. Brightshue, 85, of New Castle, passed away the evening of April 20, 2015 at the Avalon Nursing Center. Born December 25, 1929 in New Castle, she was the daughter of Perry M. and Lucy D. Weston Christy. She was preceded in death in 2005 by her loving husband, Vernon L. Brightshue, Sr. whom she married on April 7, 1947. Sara attended New Castle High School. She was employed as a factory worker at Airway Luggage. Sara enjoyed watching her grandchildren whom she adored, and taking care of her cats. She is survived by one daughter, Mable Pallerino of Campbell, OH.; one son, Vernon Brightshue, Jr. of New Castle; two sisters, Lucy Brightshue of New Castle and Pearl Stephenson of Del City, OK.; 5 Grandchildren; 11 Great-grandchildren; and 1 Great-great-grandchild. In addition to her parents and husband, Sara was preceded in death by one son, Robert Brightshue; five brothers, Howard, David, Perry, Harry, and William Christy; and one sister Ella Matthews. Visitation will be held on Thursday from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory, 2429 Wilmington Road. A funeral service will take place immediately following visitation at 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home with the Rev Ron Mounts officiating. Burial will be at the Graceland Cemetery.
