Sarah L. "Sally" Newman, 92, of 3349 Wilmington Road, formerly of Baldwin Road, died the morning of August 27, 2010 at Jameson Care Center.Born June 25, 1918 in New Castle, she was a daughter of James E. and Catherine Schladen Lawton. She married Raymond M. Newman August 16, 1941. They recently celebrated their 69th wedding anniversary. Sally was a graduate of New Castle High School and was a homemaker. She was a member of the New Castle Women's Club, Castle Paws & Taws and the Sunshine Girls. She was also a Cub Scout leader, 4-H leader and served on the Cancer Board. She enjoyed cooking and baking, and dearly loved her family.Sally became a member of the Third Presbyterian Church in 1941 where she taught Sunday school and was a member of the True Blue class. She served as a deacon and a youth group sponsor.In addition to her husband, she is survived by one daughter, Merilynn (Jack) Sell of Myrtle Beach, SC; one son, Raymond (Patty) Newman, Jr. of Minneapolis, MN; two grandchildren, Linda Sell of Washington, DC and Dan (Amy) Sell of New Jersey; and one great granddaughter, Ashley Sell.She is preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Henry and Jack Lawton; and two sisters, Caroline Houk and Betty Bara.Visitation will be held on Sunday, August 29, 2010, from 2-5 PM at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., Wilmington Road, New Castle.A funeral service will be held on Monday, August 30, 2010, at 11:00AM the funeral home. Rev.
