Obituary

Shawn Anthony Adams, age 39, of New Castle, passed away at home with his wife Kimberly at his side the morning of October 19, 2015. Born October 10, 1976, in Windber, PA, he is the son of Diane Adams. Shawn and Kimberly were married on the east rim of the Pennsylvania Grand Canyon on July 7, 2007. He is a graduate of Conemaugh Township Area High School in Davidsville, PA. He is a licensed water plant operator with the Pennsylvania American Water, Ellwood City Plant. He previously was employed with Somerset Water Authority and Conemaugh Township Water Authority. Shawn is a dedicated firefighter since the age of 14 where he had served with the Krings Fire Department, Conemaugh Township Fire Department, Richland Township Fire Department, and both the Neshannock and Shenango Fire Departments. He is also a Pennsylvania State Fire Suppression Instructor. Among his many interests, Shawn enjoyed hunting and hunting trips with his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Kent and Karen, fishing, his dogs, and spending time with his wife, family and friends. Shawn is loved and will be sadly missed by family, many friends, and his brothers and sisters in the fire service. In addition to his mother and his wife, he is survived by one step-daughter, Elizabeth Thomas and her significant other, Travis Nadolsky; two step-sons, Joshua Thomas, a junior at Westminster College, and Stephen Thomas, a senior at Shenango High School; and one half-brother, Chad Knauer. Also survived by his extended family, father-in-law and mother-in-law, John and Sandie Witeof; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Kent and Karen Yoder; brother-in-law, John Witeof and his significant other, Ashley Lotzmann, and many aunts, uncles, and cousins. He is preceded in death by his grandfather, John Adams, who helped raise him like a son. There will be a memorial service at First Presbyterian Church, 125 N. Jefferson St. in the city of New Castle at 4:30 pm on Saturday, October 24, 2015, with a memorial dinner to follow at Shenango Township Fire Department, East New Castle Station at 2424 East Washington St. In lieu of flowers or plants, memorial contributions may be given in memory and honor of Shawn to either the Neshannock Township or Shenango Township Fire Departments.
