Shelby K. Duvall, 93, of New Castle, passed away the night of December 23, 2010 in the Avalon Nursing Center.Born August 9, 1917 in Coal Center, PA, he was a son of J. Blaine and Catherine Eberhart Duvall. He married Florence Wilson on March 3, 1948. She preceded him in death on November 9, 2010.Shelby was a Captain in the U.S. Army where he served in France during WWII as a finance officer.He was vice president of sales for Associated Box Company.Shelby was past president of Martin's Ferry Rotary and served on the Martin's Ferry Public Library board. He was a member of the Charleroi Men's Corral and the Easter Seal's board.When he was younger he enjoyed golf and recently liked crossword puzzles.He was a member of First United Methodist Church where he also sang in the choir.Shelby is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Kathy and Ralph Shaffer of New Castle; one granddaughter, Leslie and Tom Nigon; two great grandchildren, Max Nigon and Abby Nigon.He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; one brother, Duane Duvall; three sisters, Nina Guder, Helen Bruce and Bee Reade.Visitation will be held on Monday, December 27, 2010, from 5:00-8:00 p.m. and Tuesday, December 28, 2010, from 10:00-11:00 a.m. at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road.A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, December 28, 2010, at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home. The Rev. Edward Bailey will officiate.Burial will be in Castle View Gardens.In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to First United Methodist Church, 135 Decker Drive, New Castle, PA 16105.
