Shirley L. Buckel, 91, formerly of W. Winter Avenue, passed away the morning of April 9, 2016 at Golden Hill Nursing Home. Born March 25, 1925 in New Castle, she was the daughter of Norman H. and Mary Elizabeth Gaston Hatfield. She was preceded in passing on July 16, 1969 by her first husband, George Gaylord Harruff. She subsequently married Richard W. Buckel who also preceded her in passing on September 6, 1989. Shirley was then preceded in passing by her fiancé, John W. Campbell in 2006. She was also preceded in passing by her son, Thomas W. Harruff and one brother, Donald R. Hatfield. Shirley raised her three children and later worked at the Almira Home in New Castle. Through the years she volunteered for the City Rescue Mission, the Almira Home and the Red Cross. She loved camping and boating and was a member of First Assembly of God. Shirley is survived by her daughter, Kathy (Robert) Taylor of New Castle; one son, David J. (Esther) Harruff of Lake City, PA; one daughter-in-law, Margaret Harruff of Cranberry; 6 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 1-2 pm at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road, New Castle. A funeral service will take place immediately following at 2:00 pm at the funeral home with the Rev. Chad Stoecker officiating. Burial will be in Oak Park Cemetery.
