Shirley A. Houk, 88, of New Castle, passed away the evening of June 15, 2019 at her home, surrounded by her family. Born April 20, 1931 in Mt. Vernon, Ohio, she was the daughter of Albert and Gladys (Wright) Brooks. She was preceded in death on August 10, 2013 by her husband of 62 years, Frank M. Houk, whom she married August 17, 1950. Shirley was a homemaker and also helped in their family business, Houk T.V. and Appliance. She enjoyed crafting and collected a variety of Santa Clauses. Shirley was of Methodist faith. She is survived by two daughters, Lynne Anne (Larry) Mumford of Corinth, Texas and Carole (Gary) Russell of Lantana, Texas; two sons, Gary J. Houk of New Castle and Frank R. (Robin) Houk of Fombell, PA; 4 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by one brother, Myron Brooks. There will be a private visitation and funeral service for the family at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc. in New Castle with Rev. John Yergan officiating.
