Shirley "Jean" Johns, 85, of Hickory Township, passed away the night of April 11, 2019 at UPMC Jameson Hospital. Born October 11, 1933 in New Castle, she was the daughter of Herbert and Clarabelle "Babe" (Covert) Saxton who preceded her in death. Shirley is survived by her husband of 66 years, David William Johns, III, whom she married December 8, 1952. Jean was a homemaker, enjoying raising their three children. She liked the outdoors, often boating and fishing. She was a Charter Member of New Covenant Evangelical Presbyterian Church where she sang in the church choir. She is survived by one daughter, Elena Harding and her husband, William of New Castle; two sons, David W. Johns, IV and wife Debra and Gerald R. Johns and wife Doris all of New Castle; one brother, Herbert Saxton and his wife, Carol of Florida; one sister, Carole LaScola and her husband, Phillip of New Castle; 4 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. A Memorial Service will be held on Monday, April 22, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. at New Covenant EPC, 1911 Harlansburg Road, New Castle. Pastor Chris Curtis will officiate.
