Shirley C. Kennedy, 86, of Hazelcroft Avenue, passed away the evening of February 15, 2015 at Avalon Springs Nursing Center in Mercer, PA.
Born July 27, 1928 in Middle Lancaster, PA, she was a daughter of Cecil E. and Norah R. Brua Carnes.
She was preceded in death on September 8, 1996 by her husband, George B. "Jake" Kennedy.
Shirley was a graduate of the Jameson School of Nursing, and a member of the Jameson-Shenango Alumni.
She was employed as registered nurse with Jameson Hospital, retiring in 1991.
A member of the F.O.P. Auxiliary Lodge #21, she was also a member of Wimodausis, and Epworth Methodist Church.
Shirley enjoyed spending time at her home, and caring for others.
She is survived by her one and only son whom she adored, George Stephen Kennedy and fiance Tonya Rushwin of Sharpsville.; 5 grandchildren, Taylor and Madison Shaftic, Zachary and Tori Rushwin, and Tyler Krauss.; 1 Great-grandson, Elias Krauss; 2 Nieces, Mary Beth Beight, and Marcie Shaftic.
In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by one brother, John Edward "Teddy" Carnes.
Visitation will be held on Thursday from 4:00-7:00 p.m. at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road, New Castle.
A funeral service will take place immediately following visitation Thursday at 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home and will be officiated by Rev. Wayne Schar of Epworth United Methodist Church and Chaplain Beth Weirman of Gentiva Hospice.
Burial will be in Oak Park Cemetery. Memorial contributions can be made to the Jameson School of Nursing, 1211 Wimington Ave, New Castle, Pa. 16105.
