Shirley M. Jones, age 87, of New Castle, passed away the early morning of Dec. 29, 2022, at UPMC Jameson Hospital.

Born Jan. 3, 1935, in New Castle, she was the daughter of the late John and Mary (McIltrot) Sarbo.

On Feb. 14, 1953, she married Paul R. Jones, who preceded her in death on Dec. 27, 2016.

Shirley was a 1952 graduate of New Castle High School. She was a homemaker that loved taking care of her family. She enjoyed playing piano and crossword puzzles. She was an active member of Neshannock Presbyterian Church.

Survivors include her children, Sharon (Michael) Elliott of Nebraska; Paula Thompson of New Castle; David (Jean) Sarbo of New Castle; three grandchildren, Amber (Bryan) Shelar, Kathleen (Cyrus) Elliott, Raelyn (Benjamin) Kalka; and five great grandchildren, Trent, Gavin, Londyn, Drew & Sabastian.

In addition to her parents and husband, Shirley is preceded in death by one daughter, Shirley Ann Jones, and one sister, Carol Kradel.

Visitation will be held on Monday, Jan. 2, 2023, from 3:00 – 5:00 PM at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road, New Castle.

A funeral service will take place immediately following visitation at 5:00 PM, at the funeral home, with the Reverend Doctor Michael Elliott, officiating.

Burial will be at Castleview Cemetery.
