Shirley Loy Wimer, age 92, of New Castle, passed away the evening of June 15, 2020 at the Avalon Place, in New Castle. Born October 9, 1927, in New Castle, she was the daughter of the late James Frances and Clara (Blews) Loy. On August 16, 1946, Shirley married her beloved husband of 49 years, John C. Wimer, Jr. He preceded her in death on March 16, 1996. Shirley was a graduate of New Castle High School. Prior to becoming a homemaker, Shirley was employed as a phone operator with Bell of PA and was also an apartment complex manager. She enjoyed many hobbies such as swimming, sewing, reading, and spending time at the family cottage. What gave her the most joy in life, was spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Shirley was known for her kindness and her love for Jesus. Her legacy will live on through the many people she blessed. Shirley is survived by one son, Donald E. (Michele) Wimer of Conowingo, MD; daughter-in-law, Cindy Wimer of Harrisburg; son-in-law, David Cline of New Castle; eight grandchildren, Jay Wimer, Kevin Cline, Aaron Cline, Amy Crouse, Steven Cline, Megan Cline, Alexis Frazier, Kendall Deckman and 10 great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband, Shirley was preceded in death by one daughter, Rebecca Cline; one son, John C. Wimer, III; and three sisters, Frances Lucas, Patricia Clark, and Myrna Hoyland. Visitation will be held on Friday, June 19th from 10:00 – 11:00 AM, at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road, New Castle. A funeral service will take place immediately following visitation, at 11:00 AM, with Rev. Matthew Bupp officiating. The family requests that face masks be worn to the visitation and service.
