Obituary

Sidney Robert Lockley, 83, passed away March 30, 2014 in Fort Pierce, Florida, following a short illness.Son of the late Sidney L. Lockley and Dolores Allen Lockley, Sidney was a graduate of New Castle High School, class of 1948. He graduated Geneva College in 1954 after serving with the Pennsylvania National Guard's 28th Division at Camp Atterbury. He also trained in Fort Benning, GA, with the Paratroopers and Rangers Division.In 1951, Sidney married his high school sweetheart, Margherita ("Dolly") Del Castello. They have two daughters, Joanne and Gina, and a son Daniel (deceased).A long-time resident of New Castle, Sidney was personnel manager of family-owned Lockley Machine Company. Later he owned and operated Walmo and Tilco Dry Cleaners and the Par, Birdie, Eagle Golf Shop.His community service included serving on the Board of Directors for the Lawrence County Catholic Social Service, the United Way, and the Salvation Army. He was also a member of the Rotary Club and the New Castle Country Club.Sidney was a long-time member of the First Methodist Church, where he served as Sunday school teacher and was a member of the choir.An excellent athlete, he enjoyed running and golf. With a passion for reading and history, Sidney retired to Florida with his wife, Dolly. A true family man, he was best known for his hearty laugh and genuine love of people.Visitation will be held on Friday, April 4, 2014, from 7:00-9:00 p.m. at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road.The New Castle Area Honor Guard will conduct Military Rites Saturday, April 5, 2014, at 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home, followed by a brief prayer by Rev. Richard Helsel. Internment will take place in Graceland Cemetery.
