Sophie Hudak, 95, formerly of Fairmont Avenue, passed away the morning of September 23, 2015 at Otterbein Senior Life Styles of New Albany. Born July 16, 1920 in Detroit, Michigan, she was a daughter of John and Mary Getchy. She was preceded in death on January 15, 1977 by her husband of 30 years, Frank Hudak, whom she married July 6, 1946. In earlier years, she was a liner in the gold room and lining shop of Shenango Pottery. Sophie was a member of St. Camillus Parish and a member of the Women's Guild. Among her interests she enjoyed cooking, baking, and sewing. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Gail and Alan Stahura of Westerville, Ohio; and a brother and sister-in-law, William and Eleanor Getchy of New Castle. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a sister, Stella Hockenberry. Visitation will be held on Monday, September 28, from 11:30-12:30 p.m. at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road, New Castle. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 1:00 p.m. at St. Camillus Church with Rev. Father Michael Peck officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery.
