Stella M. Burmester, 86, of New Castle, passed away the morning of March 15, 2012 at Edison Manor.Born June 13,1925 in London, England, she was the daughter of William F. and Jane Garman Baxter. Stella married William Burmester March 10, 1945 in Ipswich, England. He passed away April 25, 1995. She came to the United States in 1946 and had lived in New Castle since 1960.Stella was a receptionist at the nurses residence at Jameson Hospital for 13 years, retiring in 1993. She was a Red Cross volunteer since 1966. Stella also volunteered for Contact Ears and the National Alliance of Mentally Ill. She was a member of St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church.Stella is survived by her daughter, Shirley Jane Burmester of New Castle; a sister-in-law, Clara Smith of Cleveland, OH; nieces and great nieces.She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.Visitation will be held Monday, March 19, 2012, from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road.A service will be held immediately following visitation at 1 p.m. Monday, March 19, 2012, at the funeral home. The Rev. Thomas McCurdy will officiate. Burial will be in Castle View Gardens.
