Stella Grant Dean, 91, of New Castle, entered into eternal peace on Friday, October 4, 2013 in Jameson Hospital. Stella was born on September 22, 1922, in Rochester, PA, to the late George and Ella Myers Hoening. She married Thomas Knox Grant on April 10, 1944. He preceded her in passing on April 5, 1980. On August 26, 1989, she was married to William Wendell Dean. He preceded her in passing on January 1, 2001. Mrs. Dean was a cook for the Almira Home and a custodian for Laurel School District for many years. Stella was a graduate of Rochester High School. She was a member of Mt. Hermon United Presbyterian Church and it's women's association.Mrs. Dean enjoyed going to Oak Grove Presbyterian Church, quilting, cooking, canning, spending time with her family and traveling. Stella was a cancer survivor who won her battle with breast cancer. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend who will be deeply missed by the many people she touched in her life. Mrs. Dean is survived by her daughter, Karen Grant Lynn, of New Castle; one son, Rev. Thomas Knox Grant and his wife Marilyn, of Bloomington, IL; six grandchildren, Ruth Ann Harlan, Jack Howard Knox Lynn and wife Amanda, Thomas Reitz Grant and wife Debra, Leah R. Laumeyer and husband Jason, John Knox Grant and wife Stephanie, Elizabeth Armstrong and husband Charles and 13 great grandchildren.Mrs. Dean also is survivied by five stepchildren, Sally Makarevich and husband, Peter, Phoebe Parrish, Phillip Dean and wife, Cindy, William Dean and wife, Roberta, and George Dean and wife, Peggy; 12 stepgrandchildren; and 17 stepgreat-grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husbands, Stella was preceded in passing by one sister, Ruth Schmidt, 3three brothers, James, Edward and Ray Hoening, one son-in-law, Norman C. Lynn and one grandson, Andrew C. Lynn. Visitation wil be held Monday, October 7, 2013, from 2-4 and 6-8 pm at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., New Castle. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, October 8, 2013, at 11:00 am at the funeral home. The Rev. Thomas Knox Grant, Dr. John R Locke and Pastor Marsha Parrish will officiate.Burial will be in Mt. Hermon Cemetery. Memorial contribution can be made to the American Cancer Society, Lawrence Co. Unit or Mt. Hermon United Presbyterian Church.
