Stella Ann Hemming, age 91, of New Castle, passed away the morning of January 16, 2022, at Avalon Place, following complications of Covid-19. Born October 29, 1930, in New Castle, she was the daughter of Stanley and Alice (Turek) Herbut. She was preceded in death on May 14, 1998, by her beloved husband of 46 years, John Toivo Hemming, whom she married September 15, 1951. Stella worked at Shenango China and Strouss & Company, but for most of her life, she was homemaker. Stella will be remembered for her green thumb and her love of working in her green house with various plants and flowers. She also enjoyed crocheting, birds, cats, and polka music. Stella was a member of the Polish Falcons Club and Holy Spirit Parish. What gave her the most joy, was the time she spent with family and friends. She is survived by two daughters, Joan Hemming and Kathleen (Jeff) Mowrey, both of New Castle; cousin, Dorothy Presnar; sister-in-law, Clara Hemming; nephew John (Judy) Pierog, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. In addition to her parents and husband, Stella was preceded in death by her sister, Adeline Pierog. Private services were held for the family at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road, New Castle. Burial was at Castle View Cemetery alongside her husband, John.
