Steve Franklin
Prokopchak
Jan 30, 1934 — Mar 10, 2023
Steve Franklin Prokopchak, age 89, of Neshannock Township, passed away the afternoon of March 10, 2023, at UPMC Jameson Hospital in New Castle.
Born January 30, 1934, in Butler, PA, he was the son of Nick and Mary (Hamulak) Prokopchak.
Steve is survived by his wife of 60 years, Saundra Rose (Fratto) Prokopchak, whom he married November 10, 1962.
After his graduation from Butler High School, he went on to receive his Bachelor of Arts degree from Westminster College. While attending college, he was a 3-sport athlete in golf, basketball and baseball and was a member of Sigma Nu fraternity.
Steve started his working career by teaching middle school and three years later switched careers and became a commercial lender at Mellon Bank. In the early 1970's he became the Director of Urban Renewal in the New Castle area. He later gained employment with First Seneca Bank, once again as a commercial lender. Along his career path, Steve was also a real estate broker but was well known locally for owning his insurance agency, Prokopchak Insurance Agency, for 40 years.
Steve had a love for golf and was a founding member of Seven Oaks Golf Club and a member of the New Castle Country Club. He liked sports of any kind but was especially fond of the Pittsburgh Steeler's and was an armchair coach for many years. Among all his varied interests, family was always most important to Steve. He was a man who knew someone everywhere he went or made a friend.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son, Craig (Susan) Prokopchak of McMurray, PA; his daughter, Laura (Gary) Borowy of Erie, PA; seven grandchildren, Todd, Tess, Samuel, Jen (Tim), Heather (Mike), Michael (Megan) and Chuck (Tara); and seven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Mike Prokopchak, Nick Prokopchak and John Prokopchak; and three sisters, Julia Piszko, Anne Boulon and Mary Fabian.
A private Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
