Sylvia M. Hemming, 90, of New Castle, passed away the morning of January 17, 2016 at Jameson Memorial Hospital.
Sylvia was born on August 24, 1925, in New Castle, to the late John and Anja M Linna Hemming.
She was a member of the 1943 graduating class of New Castle High School. Ms. Hemming was an artist with the former Shenango Pottery. She was a devoted member of the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church. Sylvia loved painting and water colors, her dog Marie and keeping up with the lives and activities of her friends and, especially, her family. With a sound mind at 90, she read every day to keep up with local and world news. She generously shared her wisdom with everyone until her last day.
Sylvia is survived by her brother and sister-in-law, William P. and Clara Hemming , of New Castle; her sister, Esther H. Gurtner, of Pulaski; 9 nieces and nephews, Sharon Sniezek, Diane Frengel, Bill Hemming, Jeff Gurtner, Mark Gurtner, Karen Walzer, Kristen Robinson, Kathy Mowrey and Joan Hemming; 12 great nieces and nephews and 6 great-great nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Ms. Hemming is preceded in passing by her 2 brothers, Ray and John Hemming; 2 infant sisters and an infant brother and brother-in-law, Elmer Gurtner.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 12-1:30 pm at the r. Cunningham Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Rd. Funeral services will be held immediately following at 1:30 pm at the funeral home. The Rev. Margaret Suhr-Barkley will officiate. Burial will be in Oak Park Cemetery.
