Thomas Mark Buchanan, Sr., age 77, of New Castle, passed away the morning of October 7, 2023, at Avalon Place.
Born May 27, 1946, in New Castle, he was the son of John W. Buchanan, Sr. and June A. (Evans) Buchanan. He was preceded in death earlier this year on March 4, 2023, by his loving wife of 51 years, Sally Ann (Duncan) Buchanan, whom he married January 15, 1972.
After his graduation from Shenango High School in 1964, Tom attended Toccoa Falls College in Toccoa Falls, Georgia. He also attended Shenango Valley School of Business where he received his associate degree, in business.
He spent most of his working career serving in the Rescue Mission Ministry in various locations including Kansas City, Charleston, WV, and the City Rescue Mission in New Castle.
An active member of First Alliance Church, Tom loved serving the Lord and his church as a deacon, elder, Sunday school superintendent and song leader, amongst a multitude of other services.
Family, church, and friends were his passion and his true joy. The way Tom lived his life was a perfect example of God's love.
He is survived by one son, Thomas Mark Buchanan, Jr. of Zelienople; one brother, John W. Buchanan, Jr. of New Castle; two brothers-in-law, Harold (Roberta) Duncan of Akron, OH and Robert L. Miller of New Castle; along with many loving nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by one brother and sister-in-law, William E. and Doris Buchanan; one sister, Margaret J. Miller; and one sister-in-law, Kathleen A. Buchanan.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, October 14th, from 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 noon at First Alliance Church, 111 Mission Meade Drive, New Castle.
A funeral service will take place immediately following the visitation at 12:00 with the Rev. John McCready officiating.
He will be laid to rest beside his wife in Graceland Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to Mark Buchanan, 22237 Perry Highway, Zelienople, PA 16063.
