Thomas L. Craven, Sr., 83, of New Castle, passed away the afternoon of August 11, 2010, at his residence.Born August 20, 1926, in Chewton, Pa., he was the son of Harry and Ellen Lancaster Craven. Thomas married Dora Jane Bessell on Nov. 10, 1949. She passed away June 10, 1997. He was a drag line operator at Seechan, Inc. and retired 18 years ago. He was previously employed by Jack Carlson Coal Co., Ralph Veon Coal Co., and Vanport Stone. Thomas was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was a 50 year member of First Alliance Church.Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Thomas L. Craven, Jr. and Patricia, and Michael J. Craven and Maxine, all of New Castle; a brother, Harry (Merle) Craven of Rochester, Pa.; and four grandchildren.He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; a daughter, Patty Craven Shearer; a grandson, Christopher Michael Craven; two sisters, Eleanor Hennen and Mary Craven; and six brothers, Charles, George, Ray, Carl, Paul and Norman Craven.Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, August 13, 2010, at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road and 10 to 11 a.m., Saturday, August 14, 2010, at First Alliance Church, 111 Mission Meade Dr.A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, August 14, 2010, at First Alliance Church.
