Thomas D. Houston, 89, of New Castle, passed away the morning of June 10, 2010 at Jameson Hospital North.Born Nov. 6, 1920, he was the son of William J. and Lillian Strobel Houston. He married Mary E. Munnell Houston on Aug. 28, 1943. She passed away May 24, 1960. He then married Martha Vaughn Houston. She passed away Oct. 22, 2009. A graduate of New Castle High School, Thomas served in the U.S. Army as a sergeant during World War II. He was a delivery driver for Guttman Oil. Thomas was an avid bowler, enjoyed gardening and raising strawberries. He was a member of Shenango Christian Church, where he served as an elder.Thomas is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Robert W. and Mary Lee Houston of New Castle; and a granddaughter, Maggie Houston of New York City.In addition to his parents and both wives, he was preceded in death by a sister, Nell Patterson.Visitation is 10 to 11 a.m. Monday, June 14, 2010, at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road.A funeral sevice will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, June 14, 2010, at the funeral home. The Rev. James Equels of Shenango Christian Church will officiate. Burial will be in Oak Park Cemetery.
