Thomas E. Janis, 65, of New Castle, passed away August 27, 2017 at Shadyside Hospital in Pittsburgh.
Born August 30, 1951 in New Castle, he was the son of Peter H. and Margaret Black Janis.
Tom is survived by his wife of 44 years, DeEtta Bash Janis, whom he married June 8, 1973.
A 1969 graduate of Neshannock High School, he attended Penn State where he received his Associates Degree as a lab technician.
He served his country in the Air Force as a Staff Sergeant during the Vietnam War.
Tom was employed with Rockwell International as a machinist in the forge and later worked at General Electric as a machinist until his retirement.
Among Toms many interests, he enjoyed watching NASCAR, Formula One Racing and the Pittsburgh Penguins. Tom enjoyed his involvement with his grandchildren, often watching them playing various sports, having tractor races with his grandson Michael, hunting with his son Jason and daughter Shellie. He often traveled with his wife, many times accompanied by his grandchildren.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by three daughters, Shellie (Bob) Patterson of Portersville, Kaylie (Chuck) Anderson of Neshannock Township, and Shannon (Chuck) Workman of Portersville; one son, Jason (Crystal) Janis of Fombell; one sister, Kristine Janis of Kentucky; two brothers, Joseph Janis of New Castle and John Janis of Courtland, Ohio; and 5 grandchildren, Matthew, Jocelyn, Robbie, Nathan and Michael.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his beloved grandmother Clair Black and grandfather, Elmer Black.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 4:00-7:00 p.m. at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road, New Castle. There will be no funeral service.
