Thomas George Kirker, 85, of Neshannock Township, passed away on January 6, 2024. He was the first son of Vernon "Dern" and Elizabeth Morgan Kirker, born in New Castle on January 26, 1938.
As a boy, Tom attended Walmo, Arthur McGill, Linden Grove, and Harbor schools. He graduated from Union High School in 1956. While a student at Union High School, he was active in Future Farmers of America.
He is survived by his wife, Sally O'Neill, sons Thomas (Loretta) and Phillip (Debby), grandsons, Scott and Samuel and sister-in-law Lorraine. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother David Kirker.
Tom enjoyed gardening, lawn work, tinkering and working in the garage. He liked to make and sell whirly gigs. He was an avid fan of the Pirates, Steelers, Penguins and Nittany Lions. Over the years he and his sons attended the MLB All Star Game, the Baseball Hall of Fame, opening day games, and attended ballgames at numerous MLB and minor league stadiums. He enjoyed attending games at the Mahoning Valley Scrapper and Akron Aeros/Rubber Ducks.
He and Sally enjoyed attending concerts and other events. They took bus trips to sites throughout the region. When his boys were younger, he helped coach Little League and Boy Scouts events. One of his most favorite activities was spending time at the family camp, the Silver Slipper, outside of Tionesta, PA. He liked to hunt deer and fish with his sons and grandsons. Tom was a member of Shenango Presbyterian Church.
For 34 years, Tom was the Parts Manager at Bailey Sales and Service, New Castle, PA. He was also a salesman for Jalco Truck Products, Youngstown, OH.
Visitation will be held at R. Cunningham Funeral Home, 2429 Wilmington Road, New Castle, PA. on Wednesday, January 10, from 1 to 3 p.m. Reverend Rick Vogeley, of Shenango Presbyterian Church, will preside over the rite of Christian burial at 3:00 p.m.
Donations in Tom's name can be made to the New Castle Public Library, 207 East North St., New Castle, PA 16101.
