Thomas M. Murphey, age 83, formerly of Old Butler Road, passed away the afternoon of November 1, 2016 at Golden Hill Nursing Home.
Born November 11, 1932 in New Castle, he was the son of Troy and Geraldine Sumner Murphey.
He was preceded in death on February 26, 2010 by his wife of 53 years, Georgia Shenker Murphey, whom he married on April 7, 1956.
A graduate of New Castle High School, he served during in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict.
Tom was a truck driver for Chadderton Steel. In his spare time he enjoyed gardening, fishing and hunting.
He was a member of the former First Christian Church where he served as a Deacon.
He is survived by one daughter, Jodi (Andrew) Kotarba of Lansing, Michigan; one son, Jeffrey S. (Joyce) Murphey of New Castle; one sister, Marlene Murphey of New Castle; 5 grandchildren; and 4 great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by one sister, Darlene Murphey.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, November 8, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road.
A funeral service will take place on Wednesday, November 9, at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Ty Sabella officiating.
Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery.
