Thomas R. Shaffer, Sr., 78, of New Castle, died the night of May 19, 2010 at his winter home in St. Cloud, Florida.Born April 23, 1932 in New Castle, he was a son of Roy K. and Florence M. Jones Shaffer. He married Judith A. Bates on June 25, 1955. She survives.He attended Princeton High School and was retired from the W.R. Grace Company as a plant manager.Mr. Shaffer was a race car enthusiast. He enjoyed working on both his own race car and his son's.He was a member of Princeton Memorial Presbyterian Church where he was an elder and a trustee.In addition to his wife, he is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Amy L. and Frank Murzinski of Las Vegas, NV; two sons and daughters-in-law, Thomas R. Jr. and Sherry Shaffer and Randall L. and Alison Shaffer of New Castle; one sister, Norma Michels of New Castle; and seven grandchildren.He is preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Marjorie Cooper.Visitation will be held Monday, May 24, 2010, from 5:00-8:00 p.m. at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road, New Castle, PA.A funeral service will be held Tuesday, May 25, 2010, at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Mrs. Cheryl Waguespack will officiate. Burial will be in Mt.
