Verda Alexander, 89, passed away peacefully at home on December 13th as the result of a stroke she suffered the previous week. Her family was by her side as she gently passed. She was born in New Castle on September 17, 1931, daughter to the late William and Linda Blanton and sister to Kenneth, LaRue, and Phenton. She was a graduate of New Castle High School and Cumberland College. After college she worked as a soda jerk at Linger Lite Dairy and later as a board operator for Bell Telephone. She married Herb Alexander on April 5, 1952. Herb and Verda had four children: Dennis, Cindy, Michael, and Henry. She is predeceased by Herb and Denny, and is survived by her sister Phenton Schuffert, children Mike Alexander, Cindy Walagura, Henry Alexander and wife Diana; grandchildren Micah Allen and Stanley Joswick; great grandchildren Skyler Joswick, Tanien Malone, and Riley Joswick. After Denny's passing in 2007, Verda moved to the Philadelphia area where she lived the remainder of her life with her children. Verda loved life and people. She was active in church and many groups throughout her life. She was actively engaged with her children's education, and later in life, her grandson and great grandchildren. She saw beauty in the world and good in people, which she happily shared through her poetry and paintings. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her. No service is scheduled at this time. Later in 2021 an internment ceremony will be held in New Castle. In lieu of flowers, please give a donation to a charity of your choice.
